Light charcoals in cooker and wait until they are covered in light ash. Put chopped onion in with the coals.

Mix equal parts butter, water and vinegar.

Dip chicken halves in butter mixture before placing on grill. Turn chicken every 30 minutes and continue moping with mixture to keep moist while cooking. Chicken is done when internal temperature reaches 180°. Salt and pepper just before done.
